Glass

Some people out there still think that glass is a hazard to strong, healthy, tough bare feet.

Perhaps these two videos will finally put those concerns to rest.

  1. Cool! If I see a piece of glass on the soil I usually crush it with my heel. That's fun! At least in summer and autumn. (In spring I need some time to redevelop my callouses. I am only a half-year barefooter.)
Question: Was that freshly-broken glass or were it old splinters? Old splinters are less sharp.

  2. It was a mix. It is a very common party spot for kids. While yes older glass is less sharp, when jumping up and down on it, broken glass is broken glass haha. But yes I think it was a pretty even mix of new and old.

  3. Great videos! I am not in the habit of walking on broken glass, but other things I don't worry about like spilled ice cream, soft drinks, etc. I just walk right on through those.

Do you have a thick calluses on your soles to be able to tolerate the glass?

  4. Not really thick callouses but more so strengthened skin. If you were to feel the bottom of my foot it is soft to the touch and squishy as other people's feet. The difference is they are very strong in addition to it.
